The Alberta Conflict Transformation Society (ACTS) is a non-profit restorative justice agency with a mission of transforming conflict to cooperation. It accomplishes its mission through a community conferencing model of justice, training and education to the community.
ACTS principles stem from restorative justice values of respect accountability, early intervention/prevention, inclusiveness, capacity building, reducing harm and voluntary participation.
The philosophy of restorative justice is to respond to crime and conflict as a violation against individuals, families and communities as well as society. The aim is to repair the harm caused by the criminal act (or conflict) and restore balance in the affected community.
ACTS Offers:
- Community conferencing
- Facilitiator training
- Community development
- Presentations on restorative justice and community conferencing
Beliefs that guide the Decisions and Actions of ACTS:
- Instances of conflict involve a much wider audience than those directly involved in the conflict and values the opportunities for that wider audience to participate in the transforming process.
- Conflict can be changed to cooperation through transforming relationships and by assisting those who have caused harm to accept responsibility for and demonstrate accountability for their actions.
- ACTS values building communities of empathy, respect, responsibility and accountability.
